Help using calculator Reply to this Post

Hi, I just joined, and I am trying to imput a problem, but I apparently am not doing it correctly.

The problem as it appears in my book is f(x)=2/3x^2-8/3x+5/3. I need to find the vertex, axis, domain and range, and then, graph it. I am supposed to be completing the square in order to find the vertex. I know that the calculator doesn't like the f(x). However, it seems like it wants me to give a "0" value on one side of the equal sign.

I am not sure what I need to do. If you can help, I would really appreciate it.
My thanks.

Two ways:

If you use one of the graphing calculators, say:

http://www.webgraphing.com/graphing_basic.jsp

just enter the right side of the function, 2/3x^2-8/3x+5/3

If you use one of the "plotting" calculators, say:

http://www.webgraphing.com/plotting_basic.jsp

enter y=2/3x^2-8/3x+5/3.

Finally, if you want to see how to "complete the square" take the right side and set it equal to 0 in:
